All-Star Game: Friday, July 9; rain date July 10.  Tri-County is home team this year.

Banquet: A suggestion has been made to consider changing the format of the banquet, since many players do not attend and monies for such items as a DJ appear to be unnecessary.  Under consideration is having a picnic-format banquet, informal, which will still include an awards ceremony and catered food.  The situation was discussed with Bob Ravier of the Hall of Fame Committee, who is very supportive.  Bob will obtain figures for having the banquet at Beethoven-Waldheim in Leithsville, site of many events of this sort, which he can get for the League for minimal cost.  A committee will be put together to consider the format of this type of banquet.  D. Hemerly will ask for volunteers for the committee.

Umpires and BUA: A copy of the BUA’s tentative contract with the League for the next two years is enclosed.  We will vote on this contract at the next meeting.  Please note the fees requested: $36 this year and $38 next year.  Please note that umpire fees in 1989 were $23.  This is an increase of $13 in ten years, or 64 percent.  Is it justified?  Can we disapprove the contract without jeopardizing our ability to get the best umpires?  Study the contract and come prepared to vote!

Dave Hemerly and Dave Snyder discussed their meeting with BUA.  They considered the meeting positive.  They told the BUA that lack of quality, communication and accountability for bad umpiring was still an issue. BUA was receptive to their concerns and recommended the League begin using an evaluation form.  D. Snyder said he would be willing to collect the evaluation forms for this year and report on them.

The BUA also mentioned they have had umpiring clinics the last two years.    Both D. Hemerly and D. Snyder recommended that more League representatives come to BUA meetings and state their grievances.  In order to avoid conflicts of interests for J. LaBella, who is BUA president as well as our assignor, grievances should be taken directly to BUA by D. Hemerly or those with a grievance.

Tournament: May 1 and 2.  Being organized by Joe LaBella at Scherersville.  The tournament will enable both teams and umpires to warm up for the season in a real-game situation.  Teams would pay approximately $250, which would include prizes (tentatively gift certificates) and a party after the tournament.  Please contact Joe LaBella for further details.
