The BML
held a 12-4 lead in the series, and in the minds of some,
had just as large a gap in prestige and esteem.
All that mattered little on Friday night as eight Tri-Co
pitchers shut down the BML's best and the Tri-Co took
advantage of some shaky BML defense.
''Obviously it wasn't their best game defensively,'' said
Northern Yankees and Tri-Co manager Brian Polaha. ''But we
capitalized on some of their mistakes with timely hitting.
This was a nice win for the league because we lost badly to
them last year.''
Polaha said he wasn't sure if some of the younger players
realized the importance of the game for the Tri-Co's
reputation.
''There's an aura about the Blue Mountain,'' Polaha said.
''A lot of people think they have a better league and that's
fine, but I told our guys that we had a chance to go out for
one night and take it to them.''
Godusky said the Tri-Co was motivated.
''The last couple of games with them were lopsided and we
just wanted to give them a good, competitive game,'' he
said. ''The Blue Mountain has always been successful, but we
got up on them early, and then relied on good pitching and
defense.''
Among those contributing offensively for the Tri-Co was Jake
DeBoer with a sac fly and Brett Umstead with an RBI double.
Mike Newland singled in the lone BML run in the fifth
inning.
