| 2005 Comments: The Owls entered the league in 1981 and have never gone 4 years in a row without winning a championship...Well, they haven't won one since 2001, which is 3 years running...If Gabelsville doesn't take home the first-place trophy this season, it will be the longest gold drought in franchise history...Rumors abound that Shawn Betz will return to the Orange and Black this season, and he may be the answer for he is a direct link to their last championship squad and the Owls haven't won a ring since he left town right before Game 5 of the 2001 Finals...What will be strange though will be seeing a Gabelsville team without future Hall of Famers Greg Gilbert and Jeff Evans in uniform...There is no replacing those two, but Doc Moyer and Matt Danner have put together an outstanding crop of young talent that should challenge Silver Creek for the top spot...A.J. Bohn (.475, 22 runs), Jason Irey (.403, 22 Runs), 2004 Rookie of the Year Jon Kaletja (.476, 30 Runs, 23 RBI), Mitch Schueck (.330, 26 Runs, 23 RBI) and Kyle Hoffman (.339) return to lead the offense, while Ryan Bown (4-1, 0.89 ERA), Justin Konnick 4-2, 3.22 ERA), Todd Stapleton (3-2, 4 saves, 1.62 ERA) and Jon Eidle (4-0, 1.75 ERA) are back on the hill for the Owls...Some new names are sure to mean some new studs and if Betz does in fact return in June, this team should get back to the finals... |
