| 2005 Comments: First-year manager Fabian Acevedo will
have the Herculean task of trying to replace the 3 quality starters
Jordan Creek had in their rotation last year...Jose Guerrero and Jose
Medina are gone, and rumors have it that Jedi Gonzalez will be
pitching mainly for Martins Creek of the BML this season, despite
being on the Gators' roster...So with Jedi taking the "force" to the
"dark side" and with no pitchers named Jose on the staff this season,
the Gators (who, even with those 3 quality pitchers last year, only
mustered a 13-19 record and 8th-place finish) are going to struggle
mightily in 2005...Shawn Cadden returns this season and Will Flores
will also have to pick up some of the pitching slack, along with
Acevedo, Tom Golden and Julio Lebron...Cadden and Flores will also
have to pick up the offense, as the Gators finished 10th in the league
in hitting last season (just percentage points ahead of the Yankees)
and they have lost their two best hitters in John Blazusiak and Medina...If
Gonzalez does pitch full-time for JC, you can add 4 wins to their
total, but that remains to be seen...There
are more holes to fill on this team than an old sponge as this is
clearly a rebuilding year for the Gators, who are going to struggle
this summer... |
